Abstract

Science podcasts have become an increasingly popular channel for science communication. Although the podcast medium has risen in popularity, little is known about why science podcasters pursue this practice as a tool for communication. This paper draws on data from interviews with 20 science podcasters in Australia. The results reveal that the podcasters are motivated mainly by intrinsic rewards and employ various tactics to achieve their external goals. However, they may not consciously consider these tactics to be a form of strategic science communication.
