Abstract

Historically, queer voices have been hidden in science communication, making it difficult to build a community for queer identity in science communication. The culture of science communication has made it difficult to openly be queer, although with the changes in society, being ‘out and proud’ is getting easier. Despite this, locating the queer community in science communication, while doable, is much more difficult than sticking to the historical heteronormative narrative. Simply put, we didn’t have evidence of what queerness looks like in the Australian science communication community. Now, through demographic data collected through survey research, we can begin to find the queer community in Australian science communication.
