Abstract

Citizen Science (CS) programs provide opportunities for volunteers to support projects and engage with scientists, opening meaningful dialogues and improve understanding about science. CS is often considered inclusive for everyone to participate. 14 CS practitioners were interviewed about their experiences of people with disabilities (PWD) in their programs. Although PWD makes up approx. 20% of the Australian population, their participation in CS was not visible. PWD had not been considered in most of these programs, due to either a lack of information, staff, and limited time. Interviewees suggested increasing communication about activity requirements and making different activities available for different abilities.
