Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global lives and economies, creating both challenges and business opportunities. In Nepal, the procurement of test kits faced corruption allegations and collusion between government officials and suppliers. Chinese manufacturing companies and local Nepali suppliers, selected despite concerns about test efficiency, violated procurement rules. This study reveals the government's purchase of faulty, overpriced test kits, some of which went unused due to quality issues. To address corruption, implementing a transparent procurement policy is crucial. Further research should extend to the procurement of additional medical goods like PPE, masks, ventilators, oxygen, ICU beds, and vaccines.
