Abstract

Technology now allows us to create detailed maps and tools providing high resolution information down to individual household level. The automatic human response to a map is to zoom into the location of most relevance to the individual concerned. Decisions about how much information to show on such tools needs to include consideration of how to engage the public in constructive, collaborative action rather than flipping into personal anxiety or individualized future-proofing.

Relevance to conference themes

Keeping hope alive in the face of political inaction requires community collaboration and action at a neighbourhood level. This can be difficult if people feel disconnected or overly anxious about their personal future.
